1st Assistant Director
Our Co-Founder Iiris first started filmmaking when she was in primary school and completed her first independent film after her 12th birthday. Today she’s one of Finland’s most experienced 1st AD’s – in the last years she’s ran sets in Finland, Norway, Estonia, Sweden, US, Hungary, Germany, Lithuania and Djibouti and worked with crew and production companies from UK, China, Japan, Czech, Germany, France, Iceland, Ireland, India, Denmark, Belgium and Australia. Due to her interest in global films Iiris has been focusing on international co-productions lately and wants to improve her skill set towards even bigger projects.
As a 1st AD Iiris is known to be strict yet kind. She notices quickly if there’s anything wrong in the team’s dynamics and is also very determined to fix the problems right away. She cares about her team’s wellbeing, which balances well her ambitious need to exceed everyone’s expectations. Besides her passion for details and strong on-set attitude she always prioritises safe and equal working conditions for all. Iiris in her element when resolving emergency situations and coordinating complex scenes and schedules – and considers AD’s job as being the glue holding together creative vision, production and its crew and cast.
Iiris never completed her BA but has participated further education courses such as Production Value by Focal Resource and completed 6-month leadership program Audiovisual Women by Erich Pommer Institut. Iiris has also been greatly involved in training industry newcomers for years – she’s regularly teaching in ELO Film School / Aalto University (FI) and has also lectured eg. in Greenwich University (UK), Frans Schartaus Handelsinstitut (SE), Focal (CH), Academy of Moving People and Images (FI) and Yle Finnish National Broadcasting Company. Iiris is the creator of our BBG Junior Program and BBG AD Bootcamp.
Iiris is also a member of European Film Academy, Filmiaura, European Women’s Audiovisual Network (EWA) and Women in Film and Television Finland (WIFT).
