Call sheet workshop will invite all participants to demo the process of creating a call sheet from the scratch. Key 2nd AD Bootcamp instead will look into working as a Key 2nd on a larger scale productions, managing the crew and cast and sharing the lead with the 1st AD.
Both workshops have been formed around the contents of 2nd AD Bootcamp held in Spring 2023 as well as Key 2nd AD Bootcamp held in Zürich, Switzerland as a collaboration with Background Action and FOCAL in Spring 2024.
Schedule and content of the Call sheet Workshop:
Aim of the workshop is to go through contents of each call sheet in detail: why are these documents created, what do they include and why and how is the workflow around them formed. The workshop is suitable for all participants – no matter if they’ve ever worked with call sheets before. Experience with MS Excel or similar software is however recommended.
We’re looking into the work from a larger scale production point of view. Working with departments such as SFX, VFX and stunts will be discussed of. This is why this workshop can also suit filmmakers who have worked with call sheets before but haven’t yet completed productions on a larger scale.

This course requires all participants to have their own computer / laptop and a table software (eg. MS Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers).
Schedule and content of the Key 2nd AD Bootcamp:
Aim of the Bootcamp is to share information so more people would take steps into deeper state of 2nd AD’ing: being a Key 2nd AD. Content is shaped for Assistant Directors who wish to take their work to another level and meet better to the requirements of international scale productions. Two days of the bootcamp will include:
- introduction to some of the standards on the AD system internationally and possible modifications of it
- encouraging participants to take more responsibility and joining the decision making
- giving more tools to tackle challenging productions
- sharing thoughts of leading the team
- aiming to help on creating more space, moving things forward easier and quicker
- getting us all to walk further and further from productions in which all rely to one AD solving issues and giving answers
We’re focusing on the idea of the Key 2nd AD being a fill-in of the 1st AD in the office taking the responsibility of the scheduling the production on their hands, leading their part of the team and collaborating with key executives and creatives.

This course does not require participants to have computers or any softwares available. However we provide files for participants to take a look at later if wished.
Teachers:
Both courses are led by BBG’s Assistant Director Aino Niemi. Aino has soon been working with MMS on a daily basis for 10 years. She’s worked on multiple international co-productions as the Key 2nd AD as well as lectured of her work in Sweden and Switzerland besides Finland. Our 1st AD Iiris Orasmaa will be joining Aino’s side on the Key 2nd AD Bootcamp. Soon 20 years in the industry Iiris has worked on 9 countries, with 25+ nationalities and is teaching regularly in Aalto University – besides having lectured in eg. Frans Schartaus Business Institute in Stockholm, Greenwich University in London and Academy of Moving People and Images in Helsinki. Get to know Iiris’ working history better via this link.

Participation:
Call sheets Workshop suits newcomers who have not worked with call sheets earlier and those professionals who wish to freshen up their skills. Key 2nd AD Bootcamp gives most to people who’ve already worked in the AD department and / or completed the Call sheet Workshop prior.
Both courses will be held as hybrid courses – both live in Helsinki city centre as well as online through a video link.
Our teaching language will be determined by the participants – please choose your preference when signing up!

We’re invoicing course fee(s) from all participants 2 weeks prior the workshops. Until then we’re offering free cancellation. Ask for a partial payment plan if needed.
